A ZIMBABWE Prisons and Correctional Service warden has been taken to court by his baby mama for failing to support his child.
Takudzwa Machenga sued Simbarashe Kazingatsai for $70 000 maintenance for their five-month-old child.
“He is not providing food, shelter or clothing for our baby.
“He doesn’t bother to check on the welfare of our child at all,” said Takudzwa.
She told the court that Simbarashe had one other child with another woman, but he disputed her testimony, saying he actually had three children in total.
“I have three children and a lot of responsibilities which my salary and allowance caters for.
“I pay US$120 maintenance to my current wife,” said Simbarashe.
Magistrate Sharon Mashavira advised Takudzwa to look for a job after she had accused Simbarashe of forcing her to resign from her previous employment.
Magistrate Mashavira said Takudzwa could not just sit at home, without looking for a job, as she was also a parent of the child and should actively play a role in its upbringing.
She ordered Simbarashe to pay $60 000 maintenance every month.
