A 24-year-old man serving a jail term at Mutimurefu Prison in Masvingo allegedly indecently assaulted a fellow inmate in a suspected case of sodomy. Petros   Mudzingwa   pleaded   not   guilty   to   a charge of aggravated indecent assault when he appeared before Masvingo magistrate Ms Lyn Manyika on Friday.

He was remanded in custody to 20 June for trial. For the State, Mr James Murambiza said on 27 April at about 4pm, Mudzingwa approached a fellow inmate and tried to lure him into a friendship.

The court heard that Mudzingwa who is left with a few months to serve promised his victim some goodies after his release.
Later on at night and without warning, Mudzingwa forcibly pulled his victim whom he shared the same prison cell with onto his bed.
When his victim was on his bed he is alleged to have sodomised him.

Mudzingwa threatened to assault the man with what he said was an iron bar if he dared reveal the matter to anyone.
The court was told that the matter came to light when the victim was seen walking with difficulty.

He was asked what had happened to him by the cell warden, Simbarashe Makombe who was on duty.
The man was medically examined and it was proved that he was abused.

A medical report was produced in court as an  exhibit.
