A sex pest hauled before the courts for his rare libido after he was caught bonking a calf left the gallery in stitches when he blamed evil spirits for his actions. Remember Gambe, 31, a prisoner at Wha-Wha Prison, was caught in the act by a fellow inmate.
He claimed evil spirits cast on him by his relatives forced him to have sex with the calf when Gweru magistrate, Mildred Matuvi, asked him why he had committed such a crime when he was due to be released from prison.
Gambe implored the magistrate to show mercy as he claimed he was a victim of his relatives’ evil spells.
“Your honour, how could a sane man like me who has only 30 days left of a prison sentence to serve have sex with a calf? This is the work of my relatives who cast evil spirits on me because they want me to rot in prison. I am pleading with you to free me because I was not in my rightful senses at that time,” he said.
Matuvi would not hear any of it and sentenced Gambe to an effective 10 months in prison.
The Gweru magistrate slapped Gambe with a six- month jail sentence for bestiality and a further four months for escaping from lawful custody.
Gambe had fled from lawful custody when he was caught bonking the calf.
Facts as presented by prosecutor Pearson Muringani are that on January 2 this year, Gambe, who was serving his last month of a robbery sentence at Wha-Wha Prison had been awarded the privilege of being treated as an ‘A’ class inmate and therefore could perform duties while in prison without supervision.
On that day, he was deployed to the prison garden unattended to tend crops and was supposed to report back at 6PM.
Muringani told the court that the apparently sex-starved Gambe then proceeded to where a herd of cattle were grazing within that garden and forced himself onto a calf.
Gambe was spotted by a fellow prisoner and fled the scene, fearing reprisals.
The jail bird had been on the run since January and was captured on March 27 while roaming the streets of Gweru.
