Private firm wins tender for Ntabazinduna solar project

INDEPENDENT power producer, Yellow Africa Private Limited has won a bid to establish a 100MW solar plant in Ntabazinduna, Matabeleland North Province.

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (Zera) said it granted the private firm the licence to operate a solar plant and supply power to the national grid.

“The generation licence is hereby granted to Yellow Africa Private Limited (the licensee) in terms of section 42 of the Act to construct, own, operate and maintain Ntabazinduna Solar Power Station for the purpose of generation and supply of electricity,” said Zera.

Zera said the project would be implemented in two 50MW phases.

The new project is envisaged to boost power generation in the country and bridge the deficit of about 800MW.

Zimbabwe generates an average of about 1,300MW daily against estimated demand of about 2,200MW.
