Private sector conference expected to unlock funding

The conference, which is the second such conference to be held in the country, will be running under the theme, International Financial Markets and Opportunities for fundraising for Zimbabwe focused Entities.
In an interview, DEAT Capital managing director Mr Nicky Moyo said the event will be jointly hosted by DEAT together with the Institute for Chartered Accountants in Zimbabwe.
“The conference has been moved from the actual date of October 28 to November 30 as ICAZ has joined us in hosting the event.
He said they were expecting delegates from Singapore, South Africa, China and Hong-Kong among other emerging economies, adding that with the current debt crisis in Europe there is need for firms to look east.
“A special feature of this event will be one to one match making meetings between participating project promoters and visiting project financiers and developers.
“These meetings will take place in the afternoon on the day of the event and this opportunity is available to a limited number of credible and participating project promoter that will be pre-screened by event organisers,” he said.
He also indicated that the event would outline transactions that have been concluded by financiers in the past year, share best practices and approaches by financiers in financing projects in Zimbabwe
It will also look at regional and global trends in financing projects and an outlook of opportunities for financing projects in Zimbabwe.
Several local, regional and international speakers are expected to present their papers during the conference and these include Industry and Commerce Minister Professor Welshman Ncube, Economic Planning and Investment Promotion Minister Tapiwa Mashakada and Investec Capital (Asia) chief executive Mr Ambrose Lam.
Other speakers will include the Head of Singapore Stock Exchange Ms Paulina McGroaty, Zimbabwe Stock Exchange chief executive Mr Emmanuel Munyukwi, and Public Investment Corporation (South Africa) chief executive Mr Elias Masilela.
Topics to be discussed include Asia markets as a source of capital and trade opportunities, the role of investor relations and capital markets, international markets outlook in search of capital raising opportunities among others and the overview of regional private and international markets.
Other topics include understanding and accessing local pools of liquidity, and engagement techniques with local and regional buy side institutions among others.
The targeted audience includes chief executive officers, chief operating officers, managing directors, general managers and senior management of local companies.
