THE private sector has been challenged to take part in the SADC Industrialisation Week, share experiences and explore opportunities in order to drive the economy.
With Zimbabwe geared towards achieving an upper-middle-income status by 2030, the private sector now has a crucial opportunity to capitalise on the upcoming SADC Summit and the 7th annual SADC Industrialisation Week (SIW) which will run from July 28 to August 2, 2024.
Participants will share experiences, explore opportunities, and collaborate on strategies to drive industrialisation and economic transformation.
Addressing the media yesterday, Zanu PF Committee member in the Politburo Dr Mike Bimha said the private sector should use the SADC Industrialisation Week to network with regional partners, learn about industry trends and explore investment opportunities.
“Our appeal is that the private sector both in SADC and Zimbabwe in particular must now run with industrialisation in-terms of implementation.
“Policymakers can share best practices and develop regional industrialisation strategies,” said Dr Bimha, who is former Industry and Commerce Minister.
The 7th SADC Industrialisation Week is being hosted under the theme “Promoting Innovation to Unlock Opportunities for Sustainable Economic Growth and Development Towards an Industrialised SADC”.
“When people want to talk about industrialisation they normally want to think of what Government has to do for us to industrialise, it should be the other way round.
“The private sector must take the lead, then obviously Government is there to facilitate and to make sure that there is total support by all arms of Government to make sure that industrialisation goes through,” he said.
