THE Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) has urged the private sector to be fully involved in the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (Zim-Asset) and its implementation to achieve the set goals of the economic blueprint. In an interview, CZI chief executive Clifford Sileya told Business Chronicle that the business body was working on raising awareness on Zim-Asset and encouraging the involvement of the private sector.

He said the involvement of the private sector was important in promoting local investments that would assist in growing the economy.
“We have been holding workshops in different areas of the country as a way of engaging in particular the private sector and the public to take part and ensure that this blueprint yields the desired results,” he said.

Zim-Asset was crafted with a view to achieve sustainable development and social equity anchored on indigenisation, empowerment and employment creation, which will be largely propelled by the judicious exploitation of the country’s abundant human and natural resources.

The Results Based Agenda is built around four strategic clusters — Food Security and Nutrition; Social Services and Poverty Eradication; Infrastructure and Utilities; and Value Addition and Beneficiation.

Sileya said it is important for everyone to have a full understanding of the document so as to make it easy to implement it through various projects which fall under the different clusters of the blueprint.

“We will continue with the workshops on how Zim-Asset can be implemented for the benefit of the economy and the country as a whole,” he said.

“We are planning to have a conference soon where we will look at how best we can implement it and see if there are opportunities for the private sector. However, we have not set the date as we are still working on the logistics.”
