adminsector and other stakeholders to work closely with the Government to ensure the success of the e-Government system.
Officially opening a one-day e-Government implementation workshop in Harare yesterday, Dr Sibanda said information communication technology played a pivotal role in the development of the nation.
He said the implementation phase of the programme required concerted and collective effort by all stakeholders.
“There is clear need for Government to work hand-in-glove with the private sector and development partners in this endeavour.
“I would want to call upon more private sector companies including development partners to join Government in identifying possible areas of co-operation for e-Government to be successful,” he said.
Dr Sibanda hailed some companies that have already joined the Government in the programme.
“I wish to particularly thank SAP and Twenty Third Century Systems, who have been working with Government for the past decade, implementing the Public Finance Management Systems (PFMS).
“They have shown great endurance during the past period of economic difficulties when they continued to work with Government on what we can arguably call the first e-Government flagship project,” said Dr Sibanda.
Under the e-Government framework, every ministry would be requested to come up with an e-Government flagship project.
The project, Dr Sibanda said, was set to ensure that the Government was more proactive, efficient, transparent and customer-oriented. It is also calculated at bringing Government closer to its people and reducing bureaucratic red tape associated with traditional methods of service delivery. Yesterday’s meeting was a follow-up to a previous two-day conference held in August last year.
Heads of ministries, principal directors, parastatal leadership and representatives from the private sector attended the meeting. Companies shared their ICT experiences with other stakeholders in the workshop in a bid to demonstrate the practicality of the project.
