FRUSTRATED Masvingo’s Reformed Church University (RCU) Vice-Chancellor and writer, Professor Wiseman Magwa, has resigned citing unfulfilled promises by his employer.“I’m not yet ready to do community service. The contract was not in tandem with my expertise,” Professor Magwa, who joined the institution in 2011, told Chronicle yesterday.
He could not disclose his pay but said he has parted ways with RCU following what he termed the university’s failure to meet his demands.
“It’s now official that I am no longer with RCU starting from yesterday. We had some contractual challenges,” he added. “We failed to agree on certain terms and conditions of service. I wasn’t happy with some basic benefits offered as they fell far too short of my expectations.
“RCU offered me another contract after the first one expired on December, 31, 2013. I would have loved to continue working with the institution but unfortunately I cannot sacrifice my expertise at the expense of my welfare and that of my family, although I belong to the Church.”
Prof Magwa said he was now a free agent ready to join any university and indicated that he was in talks with the Great Zimbabwe University.
“In the interim, I will be at the Great Zimbabwe University (GZU) as a visiting professor,” he said.
A prolific author, Prof Magwa has written 103 publications that include 23 books.
