Professional, amateur golfers tee off

top amateurs battling it out in an event, for which the monetary value is not known as yet.
Usually professional tourna­ments have a minimum of US$10 000 as sponsorship for an event.
Top Zimbabwe junior and amateur golfer Bret Krog is on the verge of making a great move as he seeks to join the Florida Tech Golf College in the United States.
Krog of Chapman travelled to the United States last week and has already taken part in two rounds of the qualifiers and is promising to impress.
The 17-year-old Zimbabwean was on second after the first round with two more rounds to go after shooting 75 and 75.
Krog will join a large pool of Zimbabweans who have gone overseas on golf scholarships with several of them making great strides.
Top golfer Brendon de Jonge is one example who went to Vir­ginia Tech on the same program and is making it big.
The other players who are still trying to make their mark are Bruce McDonald, Nyasha Mauc­haza, Scot Vincent Marc McDon­ald among others.
Krog said he is feeling good and is raring to leave a mark in the life­time opportunity he has.
“I have moved here to Florida to take part in the Florida Tech Golt Team qualifiers,” said Krog.
“I think I will do well at the end of the tournament as I have man­aged to finish on second which is good for me.
“We have played the first round and I am still to take part in two other rounds. The facilities are good and I have adjusted very well.
“Getting good results will be good for me,” Krog said.
Krog left the country as the sec­ond best junior after Ben Follet-Smith and was lying eight in the amateur order of merit. The promising player will be one for the feature considering his potential.
