Professionalise sport administration: Damasane

sport administration to help the country to be a success story on the international arena.
Addressing 40 sports directors from Harare schools, at the opening ceremony of the Adapted Sports Administration Course at Prince Edward School on Wednesday, Damasane said unless sport was run professionally in schools, the country will continue to perform dismally in international competitions.
“Unless sport is professionalised from the school level then we will not go far as a country,” he said
He said schools were a key part of the big network, in the production line of world-class athletes, and challenged sports directors to use the skills they would have gained to improve sport administration in the country.
The Adapted Sports Administration Course is run by the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee and is aimed at enhancing the skills of sports administrators throughout the country with an eye on the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, and beyond.
ZOC president Admire Masenda hailed the twelve-week course saying it was world class and was recognised in all the Olympic countries.
He believes it could usher in a new era of sport administration in Zimbabwe.
He said with good administration the country will be able to produce world-class athletes.
“Athletes win and succeed because they have the backing of good organisational management,” he said.
The course covers areas such as Olympic values, Fair Play, budgeting and finance, and developing elite athletes, among others.
The opening ceremony was also attended by ZOC chief executive Stanley Mutoya and Nicholas Munyonga who is the chairman of ZOC’s Medical Commission.
