BULAWAYO Projects Centre yesterday officially handed over vending shades to vendors at Musarurwa Shopping Centre in Nketa 7.
In an interview, the organisation’s projects director, Ms Susan Ryce, said the vendors went through micro-business management training prior to the handover.
“We noticed that Musarurwa Shopping Centre is a hive of activity and that is why we engaged the 12 vendors in the training programme.
“They are the drivers behind this donation as they requested the shades to complement the training they went through,” said Ms Ryce.
She said the new development enabled vendors to trade in a clean environment. “During the rainy season or on hot days trading becomes difficult for the vendors,” she said.
Speaking at the same occasion, Bulawayo City Council officer for vending, Mr Abner Ncube commended the organisation for the donation and urged beneficiaries to guard the property against acts of vandalism.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Lingiwe Chifadza, said she was happy to have undergone training. “These shades are a welcome development as we used to operate from shacks,” said Mrs Chifadza.
The event was attended by local community leaders, city council officials and vendors.
