BEITBRIDGE West Member of Parliament, Cde Thusani Ndou, has urged Zimbabweans returning from the diaspora to take advantage of the festive season to apply for or process their passports.
He emphasised the need to make use of many new passport offices, which have been opened across the country to acquire the necessary travel documents.
The legislator noted that many returnees face challenges travelling back to their host countries due to expired or lost passports.
“The festive season is a great opportunity for our brothers and sisters returning home to sort out their passport issues,” he said.
In an interview during the recent tour of Beitbridge Border Post, Cde Ndou encouraged those without passports to visit the Beitbridge Border Post or nearby passport processing centres to apply or renew their documents.
He was accompanying the Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Cde Barbara Rwodzi and Matabeleland South Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Albert Nguluvhe.
The visit was aimed at assessing operations at the port of entry where authorities are processing around 18 000 travellers, 1 300 light cars, 1 000 commercial trucks and 250 buses daily as the festive season peaks.
“Let’s use this chance to get our papers in order and ensure safe, hassle-free travel,” he added.
“As leaders we discourage issues of irregular migration, which are very unsafe and at times people are vulnerable to criminals when they choose to evade formal crossing points.
“We encourage people to take advantage of the decentralisation of the passport processing offices countrywide.”
