Property worth thousands up in smoke

among many other items..

It belonged to the River for Life Ministries and housed church members, who included University of Zimbabwe students.
A pastor from the church, Makaza Makovore, who was at home when the fire started, said he noticed it when he was about to leave the house.
“I was in the house with my wife and I wanted to go and buy bread since power had been restored a few minutes before,” he said.
“I noticed fire in one of the rooms where some church members live and that is when I alerted my wife and other neighbours.

“The rooms that caught fire house students from our church who come from disadvantaged families and other church members who had finished their studies.”

Pastor Makovore’s property was saved with the assistance of the public who brought it out.
The Fire Brigade arrived after about 40 minutes and managed to put out the fire.

Pastor Makovore said he suspected the fire was a result of an electrical fault.
“We suspect that since the fire started when electricity was restored, it could be a fault or it could be that one of the guys here left an electrical gadget  like  an  steam  iron on,” he said.

“I thank the people who helped me to remove all my belongings because they could have been destroyed.”
A suspected thief took advantage of the situation and stole a decoder at the house before he was caught and beaten up by an angry mob.
He was saved by police officers who arrived at the scene.
