HARARE-BASED Prophet T Mapisarema has thrown his weight behind the proposed Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, urging Zimbabweans to support the initiative, which he says aligns with biblical teachings on leadership and authority.
Prophet Mapisarema, born Tichaona Garavada and known for his ministry’s growing following in areas such as Domboshava and Kuwadzana, said national leadership was divinely appointed and must be respected and supported by citizens.
“Scripture is clear that leadership is not accidental. God appoints leaders for seasons and purposes. As citizens, we must align ourselves with that divine order,” he said in an interview.
He cited Romans 13:1, which states: “Let everyone be subject to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except that which God has established.”
The cleric said backing the proposed amendment goes beyond politics and reflects obedience to God’s instruction.
“When we support our leaders, we are not just engaging in civic duty, we are fulfilling God’s instruction. Stability and continuity in leadership bring peace, development and national progress,” he said.
Prophet Mapisarema also referenced Proverbs 21:1, which says: “The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord; He directs it like a watercourse wherever He pleases.”
He said the proposed amendments present an opportunity to consolidate gains made under the Second Republic and strengthen governance.
“This Bill comes with opportunities for continuity, policy consistency and national growth. As the Church, we must pray for and support leadership so that the nation prospers,” he said.
The cleric urged Christians across denominations to actively participate in national development and avoid what he termed “spiritual apathy”.
“The Bible instructs us to be the salt and light of the world. That includes participating in nation-building and supporting initiatives that promote unity and progress,” he said.
He further quoted 1 Timothy 2:1-2, which encourages prayers for those in authority, saying: “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people — for kings and all those in authority.”
“Through prayer and support, we create an environment where leaders can govern effectively and the nation can flourish,” he added.
Prophet Mapisarema’s remarks come at a time when various stakeholders were continuing to express their views on Constitutional Amendment Bill No. 3, amid growing calls for wider engagement on the proposed changes.
