A 24-YEAR-OLD self-proclaimed prophet has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for sodomising an 11-year-old boy, leaving his congregation in disbelief.
The shocking abuse happened on 18 November 2025, in Chief Rusambo area, Rushinga.
The victim had been sent to meet the prophet at a bus stop and escort him to a nearby homestead for prayers.
Along the way, the offender spun a story about a “black spiritual bird” following them, warning it would attack if the victim disobeyed.
At the homestead, the prophet insisted on sharing the same room with the victim. That night, he sexually assaulted the victim, removing their clothes and committing the act from behind.
After the assault, the prophet handed over a paltry US$2, claiming it was for bus fare to visit his shrine later, and told the victim to keep silent.
The victim soon disclosed the incident, sparking a police investigation that led to the prophet’s arrest.
Bindura Regional Magistrates’ Court handed down a 15-year sentence, sending a clear warning that sexual crimes, even under the guise of spiritual guidance, will not be tolerated.
“This conviction is a clear message that sexual violence will be met with the full weight of the law,” said the National Prosecuting Authority.
“Protecting individuals from abuse is a priority, and offenders will face severe consequences.”
