A SELF-PROCLAIMED Sakubva-based prophet popularly known as Madzibaba Mutambasere allegedly raped a 23-year-old congregate as payment for healing her from her sickness.
Western Mutambasere (31) was remanded in custody to February 1when he appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Poterai Gwezhira last week who advised him to apply for bail at the High Court since he was facing a serious offence.
Mutambasere was not asked to plead to the rape charges.
Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted.
Allegations were that sometime in August 2016, the complainant (name withheld) fell ill and got bed-ridden.
Her aunt then took her to the prophet’s residence for spiritual healing.
Mutambasere, who resides at Court 16, Door 7 in Nyausunzi, Sakubva, is alleged to have healed the complainant and ordered her to come back when she walks on her own.
The complainant went home in Odzi and came back a week later after she had recovered from her ailment.
Upon arrival at the prophet’s house, she was asked to go outside and fetch some water.
The suspect was alone.
“When she came back, the prophet is alleged to have demanded his payment for delivering the complainant from evil spirits and healing her from her ailments. Before she could respond, he grabbed the complainant by her shoulders and raped her once,” said Mr Karombe.
It was further alleged that after committing the offence, the suspect threatened the complainant that he would return the evil spirits he had cast out if she ever revealed the matter to anyone.
She, however, called her aunt who subsequently revealed the case to her husband.
A police report was made leading to the prophet’s arrest.
