A SECURITY aide to Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries founder Walter Magaya appeared in court yesterday on charges of obstructing the course of justice and resisting arrest.
Tapiwa Felix Chikondo (34) was arraigned before Harare provincial magistrate Mr Tapiwa Kuhudzai, accused of interfering with Magaya’s arrest on Saturday.
He is represented by lawyers Messrs Stephen Chikotora and Malvin Mapako, with a bail ruling expected today.
The State, represented by Detective Inspector Washington Mashizha from the CID Commercial Crimes Division in Harare, stated that on November 1 at about 7.30am, a police team led by Superintendent Ndhlovu arrived at Magaya’s prayer mountain to arrest him.
While part of the police team went up the mountain to carry out the arrest, others remained at the entrance near the boom gate.
It is alleged that Chikondo drove a sky-blue Nissan Dayz at high speed, abruptly blocking the police vehicle’s path.
He reportedly became aggressive and questioned the officers’ presence.
Det Insp Mashizha identified himself and his team as law enforcement agents, but Chikondo allegedly shouted that they had no authority to be on the property, which he claimed belonged to him.
The situation escalated when Chikondo allegedly charged at Det Asst Insp Chifamba, pushing him to the ground.
Det Insp Mashizha intervened and restrained Chikondo, who was described as violent during the altercation.
The officers eventually subdued and arrested him.
The court is expected to rule on his bail application today.
