A Bulawayo prostitute has appeared in court for allegedly assaulting a colleague by biting her and stabbing her with an empty bottle following a misunderstanding.
Faith Khumalo, aged 24, and residing at number 1088 Nketa 6 was not asked to plead to assault when she appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Miss Eveline Mashavakure on Friday.
She was remanded out of custody on her own cognisance to today for continuation of trial. The complainant is Ms Nobuhle Nkiwane (29) of 1412 Cowdray Park.
Allegations as presented by Mrs Memory Ndlovu are that sometime last month; Khumalo was drinking beer at Manor Hotel at night while looking for men to hire her for sex.
Khumalo was drinking in the company of her friend Ms Sukoluhle Nkomo and she approached Ms Nkiwane and accused her of spreading lies about her.
Khumalo and Ms Nkiwane had earlier had a misunderstanding in which the former was hired by a client who had initially hired the latter.
Khumalo alleged that Ms Nkiwane had told Ms Nkomo about the issue thereby causing the misunderstanding between them.
She bit the complainant on the lower lip, once on the cheek and once on the left middle finger. She also allegedly stabbed Ms Nkiwane with an empty bottle resulting in her sustaining injuries.
The matter was reported to police. Ms Nkiwane was referred to the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) where she was treated and discharged.
Khumalo told the court that she acted in self defence.
She told the court that she earns a living by going to Manor Hotel where she gets hired for sex. She said the client in question had hired her for $20 for the whole night.
