Protect you home from wild fire

THE month of August marks the beginning of that time of the year where wildfires are a real threat to many homes because of the dry conditions. The risk is more serious particularly in Manicaland where many homes are in either a woodland setting or mountain site.

Working together people can make their homes and communities much safer from wildfires.

Things to do
Clear leaves and any vegetative material from the roof and gutters,

Remove any dead vegetation from around your home,

Make a wide enough fire break around your perimeter fence,

Keep your lawn green,

Maintain an adequate supply of water at your home such as a swimming pool,

Have a garden hose that is long enough to reach all the corners of your yard.

Things not to do
Never burn any rubbish or leaves in your yard,

Never ignore small fire outside your home,

Never forget to have an emergency kit and family communication plan,

When you see a veld fire call the fire brigade. You will save grasslands, forests, animals, people and their properties.
