A MUTARE woman’s bid to obtain a protection order against her fellow tenant backfired after it was revealed in court that she had tried unsuccessfully on several occasions to terminate the pregnancy of the tenant.
Esther Mumbure had dragged her fellow tenant, Talent Marata to the Mutare Civil Courts accusing him of disturbing her peace by visiting his relatives with her children without her consent.
Marata however, told the court that Mumbure was working day and night trying to destroy his marriage because of her jealousy.
He told the court that Mumbure was in the habit of giving his wife abortion pills so that she could terminate her pregnancy.
“She tried to terminate my wife’s pregnancy by giving her abortion pills on several occasions. This woman is jealousy of my marriage; she has been calling my in-laws and telling them that I am abusive towards my wife. At one time, she even sent a message to my father-in-law purporting to be my wife.
“The message read ‘baba ndakatadza, ndaakuda hangu kudzoka ndidzokere kuchikoro ( father I erred, I want to come back home and go to school),” said Marata.
Marata went on to tell the court that before his wife fell pregnant Mumbure had asked her to take family planning pills.
Mumbure refused to respond to the allegations that she had given Marata’s wife family planning and abortion pills.
Rather, she claimed that she had only contacted Marata’s in-laws after his wife had requested her to contact her father.
“They should stop going places with my children, I now fear that my children will go missing someday,” she said.
A binding over protection order was granted to both parties after Marata had managed to convince the court that Mumbure in a way was also disturbing his family’s peace.
