Prove yourselves: Coach Maruwa

DYNAMOS are in the process of assembling their squad for the 2023 season and are keen to secure the future of key players.

The Glamour Boys have so far strengthened all departments, including their executive committee, technical team, defence, strike force and midfield.

Towards the end of last season, goalkeeper, Taimon Mvula, missed five matches under unclear circumstances, with Frank Kuchinei and Prince Tafiremutsa taking turns to guard the posts.

Analysts believe that gamble cost Dynamos a second-place finish, as they surrendered second spot to Chicken Inn.

It was also a forgettable ending for Mvula, who was in control of the Golden Glove race for the better part of the season.

He ended up finishing with 16 clean sheets, just three behind eventual winner, Nelson Chadya, of Ngezi Platinum Stars.

It had been rumoured that Chicken Inn goalie, Donovan Bernard, is on the verge of joining DeMbare.

However, Dynamos’ new boss, Herbert Maruwa, has dismissed reports suggesting he is desperate to replace Mvula.

Maruwa revealed that he rates Mvula among the local best goalkeepers and said he is keen to keep him at the club.

“Mvula, has a running contract with the club and I’m one person who has never doubted his abilities.

“In fact, I think he is one of the league’s best keepers, if not the best,” said Maruwa.

“I haven’t heard him asking to leave and he seems to be enjoying his game at the club, and proved what he is capable of last season.”

Maruwa conceded that he is going to give each keeper a chance.

“It’s going to be a new season for everyone and all the keepers at our disposal have a chance to claim the first-choice jersey, and I can’t guarantee Mvula first preference because I believe he has to reintroduce himself.”

Maruwa also wishes to retain defender, Godknows Murwira, who also missed the season’s last games.

Murwira is reported to be on Manica Diamonds and Ngezi Platinum Star’s wish list.
