WAR veteran and retired senior cop, Cde Daniel ‘Getmore’ Masunga who died last Friday was laid to rest at the Manicaland Provincial Heroes’ Acre on Tuesday.
Cde Masunga (56) is survived by his wife.
Cde Masunga was born on February 24, 1960 in Katerere Village.
He did his primary and secondary education at St Columbus’ schools.
He failed to complete his studies due to the liberation struggle.
He joined the liberation struggle in 1975 and was first stationed at Nyadzonia and later transferred to Doroi Camp.
In that same year, he was transferred to Chimoio for military training at Takawira Base 2.
Upon completion of his training in 1979, he was selected to go for further training in Romania.
In 1982, he was demobilised from the army and went to Norway to train as a motor mechanic.
He joined the Zimbabwe Republic Police and promoted to the rank of Inspector, a position he held until his resignation in 2003.
Up until the time of his death, Cde Masunga was a full time motor mechanics.
Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs, Cde Mandi Chimene, described Cde Getmore as a humble, quiet and obedient person who remained committed to the liberation of the country.
“Cde Masunga’s death came at a time when the revolutionary party, Zanu-PF is taking practical steps towards concluding the Chimurenga through indigenisation, empowerment, development and employment creation through the national economic blueprint, Zim-Asset which indeed were the very norms that led to Cde Masunga to join the liberation struggle,” he said.
Minister chimene encouraged other war veteran to remain loyal to Zanu-PF.
