THE Premier Soccer League (PSL) have begun acting on the aborted game between Chegutu Pirates and Dynamos, and demanded reports from the two clubs on the incidents that characterised the encounter at Baobab Stadium.
Matters got out of hand after Chegutu Pirates players and later supporters vehemently protested against an injury-time goal awarded to Dynamos.
Match commissioner Brighton Mudzamiri, in concurrence with his referees, eventually called off the game because of the refusal by the home team — Chegutu Pirates — to restart the encounter after DeMbare had been awarded a contested 97th-minute winner.
“The match could not go ahead as you all saw that the other team refused to restart after conceding a goal. There was nothing more the referees could do. So, it’s abandoned,” Mudzamiri said.
The PSL yesterday wrote to both Dynamos and Chegutu Pirates, asking them to submit their official versions of what transpired at Baobab.
The league indicated that they were now in possession of reports from the match officials.
“The Premier Soccer League has received the official match reports regarding the abandonment of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match between Chegutu Pirates and Dynamos on Thursday 25 April 2024,’’ the PSL wrote.
“In light of this incident, we have advised both clubs to submit comprehensive reports detailing the events leading to the abandonment, before initiating disciplinary proceedings. As an organisation committed to upholding the integrity of the sport, we strongly urge all players and officials to adhere to the rules and regulations of the Premier Soccer League.
“Such behaviour is essential to maintaining the spirit of competition and ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all participants and spectators.”
The league also insisted that their disciplinary committee was ready to mete out appropriate penalties on clubs that step out of line and will be charged with varying acts of misconduct.
Chegutu Pirates, who have been hogging the limelight for the wrong reasons, are also set to be summoned before the PSL disciplinary committee for causing the delay to the start of their league assignment against Yadah Stars at Heart Stadium last weekend.
The Premiership newboys arrived at the stadium wearing the same colours as the home side and reportedly took time to get their act together and change into an alternative strip as they were the away side.
The PSL have maintained that they will not entertain any acts of misconduct that will bring the name of the league and their partners into disrepute.
