PSL back with a bang: Title race heats up after international break

Fungai Muderere, Zimpapers Sports Hub

AFTER a two-week pause for the Fifa international break, Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL) action roars back to life this weekend with an exciting line-up of Week 15 fixtures across the country.

While Zimbabwe’s Warriors took centre stage in Morocco and Bloemfontein, the domestic spotlight now returns to a PSL campaign that has already produced 201 goals in 126 matches — and promises even more drama as the title race intensifies.

During the break, the Michael Nees-coached Warriors suffered a 2-0 defeat to Burkina Faso before drawing 1-1 with Niger in international friendlies played in Morocco.

Meanwhile, a locally based Warriors side, led by interim coaches Simon Marange and Joel Luphahla, represented Zimbabwe in the 2025 Cosafa Cup in South Africa. They exited the tournament with heads held high after a commanding 3-1 win over Mozambique, following a goalless draw against Mauritius and a 2-0 loss to South Africa.

Back on the home front, log leaders MWOS remain unbeaten and travel south to face Triangle United at Gibbo Stadium in what promises to be a stern test. Free-scoring striker Billy Veremu will once again be their key man as they look to extend their four-point lead over second-placed Simba Bhora.

Junior Makunike

Also at Gibbo, Bikita Minerals host a struggling Dynamos side on Saturday.

Both matches will be broadcast live on our sister station, ZTN Prime (Channel 294 on DStv). Make a date with us in the southeast Lowveld — Saturday: Bikita Minerals vs Dynamos, and Sunday: Triangle United vs MWOS. Get The Picture live on ZTN Prime.

Simba Bhora, who welcome back coach Joel Luphahla and midfield dynamo Junior Makunike from Cosafa duty, face a tricky assignment away to Highlanders at Barbourfields. Bosso, currently ninth on the table with 19 points, will be boosted by the return of vice-captain Andrew “Tower” Mbeba, who captained Zimbabwe during the Cosafa tournament.

In Zvishavane, FC Platinum host ZPC Kariba at Mandava Stadium, while at Rufaro Stadium, Scottland FC will look to bounce back from their first defeat of the season — a narrow 1-0 loss to MWOS — when they take on Kwekwe United.

CAPS United, gradually finding their rhythm under Ian Bakala, face Chicken Inn, who are under pressure to deliver following a lacklustre start to the campaign.

Elsewhere, Ngezi Platinum Stars entertain Manica Diamonds at Baobab, GreenFuel host TelOne in Chisumbanje, and Yadah Stars clash with Herentals College at Heart Stadium.
