THE Castle Lager Premier Soccer League quartet of Tawengwa Hara, Joseph Mukoki, Rodwell Thabe and Elisha Mandireva leave the country this morning for their sports administration course graduation in Kenya. SuperSport facilitated for the four to undertake the sports management programme offered by Wits University in partnership with Strathmore University of Kenya.
Some of the courses that they covered include managing people, basic communication, project management, organisational dynamics and resource management, commercial ethics, sports law, organisation of sport, negotiation skills and planning and development of sports facilities and stadia.
An elated Hara, who is the PSL board member competitions and Chicken Inn FC secretary-general, said the course had been an eye opener.
“The course is called ‘New managers, sports and event management’ and we have covered lots of subjects which have been very enlightening. So far we have done 10 courses and I am looking forward to the graduation on Saturday. All of us did well in theory and we will be doing some presentations before the ceremony,” said Hara.
Thabe is the PSL marketing manager while Mandireva is the PSL competitions manager. Mukoki is the PSL board member development and relegated Monomotapa FC official.
Hara believes after the programme they will have a lot to offer Zimbabwean football.
“I feel that we are very lucky that we have Zimbabweans who have been afforded a chance to be part of this magnificent programme that South Africa, Nigeria and Kenya among other countries have. The South Africans who were involved in staging the Fifa World Cup, Afcon and even the ICC World Cup, did this programme.
I think after this we will have a lot to offer to the sports industry in Zimbabwe”.
He added: “We are being trained to manage sports events and please note, it’s not only a football programme but a sports programme because SuperSport beams a number of disciplines like golf, athletics, rugby, boxing, etc.
If ever I pass and graduate, I can safely say I will be ripe for everything in as far as sports is concerned. Wherever my expertise as a sports consultant will be required I will gladly avail myself. I am a football person yes but I will now be known as a sportsperson” said Hara, a prominent lawyer in the city.
