BULAWAYO Cricket academy, Tigers Under-13 will play a test match and a T20 against their Kadoma counterparts over a three day period that begins on Friday. The tournament is an invitational event meant to give the youngsters some game time and the necessary experience. “This is invitational tour so that our youngsters get some gametime.

“The boys have been training hard and with the talent we have groomed so far much, I’m positive we are going to do well in Kadoma,” said head coach Donald Nyoni.

Nyoni said they want to organise more tours around the country next year. “We hope to have more of these tours next year,” he said.
Tigers Academy, based in Magwegwe, was formed in September with the sole purpose of identifying talent in the high density suburbs.
Nyoni said the academy consists of 22 youngsters from Mzilikazi district. “We identified players for the academy in a tournament that was sponsored by Falcon Supermarket,” said Nyoni.

Nyoni believes there is so much talent in high density suburbs that goes unnoticed.
“We have stars like Christopher Mpofu and  Njabulo Ncube  who come from high density suburbs, I believe they are so many more youngsters in these areas whom we can raise to be international stars,” said Nyoni.

Tigers’ senior team is plying their trade in the Bulawayo Metropolitan League.
“The first team helps to train the youngsters, which is a plus for the academy in terms of development,” he said.

Tigers received a timely donation of white t-shirts and shorts from Falcon Supermarket ahead of their tour to Kadoma.
