Highlanders Football Club’s fines for various misdemeanours could this year top $20 000 after the club was summoned for a disciplinary hearing following skirmishes that took place during their Premier Soccer League tie against FC Platinum in Mandava on 20 November.

According to PSL communications and media liaison officer, Kudzai Bare, Bosso who were already sitting on $17 625 of fines, were charged for their fans’ pitch invasion, missile throwing and disturbing normal proceedings of the game which was televised live on SuperSport.

FC Platinum were also not spared either as they were fined for pitch invasion by their fans.

Several fans entered the pitch during the match following a downpour as they sought refuge from the rains.

Highlanders lost the incident filled match 3-0 and saw their slim chance of winning the championship going up in smoke.

Bosso had to tussle with FC Platinum officials to gain entry into the stadium as they were asked to use another entrance despite the FC Platinum bus having driven through the same gate.

In a widely circulated video, FC Platinum are seen trying to block the Highlanders bus from entering the stadium through the said gate but they gave in after some pushing from Bosso officials and supporters.

Highlanders appeared before the PSL Disciplinary Committee on Thursday but the ruling is not yet out.

Bosso’s pleas on their supporters to stop pitch invasions seem to have fallen on deaf ears as the club continues to attract unnecessary fines.

The fines come at a time the club is reeling under financial difficulties.
