MEMBERS of the public have been urged to come and interact with members of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) during the Executive Interaction Initiative (EII) Bulawayo Chapter Shooting competition scheduled for tomorrow at the Imbizo Barracks Range.
Chairman of the EII, Jabulani Nkomo, said the event is meant to encourage rapport between the army and civilians and prices have been lowered to attract more participants to the shooting event.
“There was a realisation that relations between ZNA and the public, particularly the corporate world, could be improved and the shooting competition presents a great opportunity for that,” said Nkomo.
“The event also allows members of the public the opportunity to demystify the gun as they handle weapons that include AK 47 rifle, pistols and PKM machine guns.
“The public will get to learn about the dangers and hazards of guns, while also being taught about the benefits of guns, including how to handle them and use them properly without endangering themselves.”
ZNA Bulawayo District commander Colonel Rantham Moyo said the third fun shoot this year comes against the backdrop of two earlier successful events.
He said the two family fun shoots informed the decision to hold a third one, which should be the last for 2016.
The event is meant for the whole family, hence there will be jumping castles for kids and disco music.
Moyo said they had lowered charges and had bundled AK shoots, which include 100m (22 rounds), 200m
(22 rounds), falling plates and gong into one package at a cost of $20.
In previous events, the shoots were charged individually, but this time around only the PKM will be billed separately at $5.
Moyo said they hope the lower prices will encourage more people to attend the event.
Participants will compete in PKM machine gun shoot, individual AK47 Shoot and Falling Plates.
Previous events have attracted various companies and members of the public with the winners walking away with various prizes.
