Collaborative efforts such as public-private partnerships (PPPs) are driving progress towards national development objectives and overarching vision for a prosperous Zimbabwe by 2030, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Torerai Moyo said yesterday while commissioning work done by a private company at a Sanyati School.
Speaking during the handover of two classroom blocks, an ablution facility and an 85m-deep borehole at Easterlea Primary School in Chakari, Sanyati, the Minister said PPPs had the transformative power to advance Zimbabwe’s educational infrastructure.
The blocks were constructed and donated by Craft Properties Holdings.
“This ceremony exemplifies the power of collaborative efforts, such as this public-private partnership, in driving progress towards our national development objectives and overarching vision for a prosperous Zimbabwe by 2030.
“Moreover, it is imperative to echo the sentiments of our President, Dr ED Mnangagwa who has emphasised the significance of working hand-in-hand with private partners to enhance key sectors such as education.”
The donation by the company and PPPs not only amplified the impact of the Government initiatives but also harnessed the diverse expertise and resources necessary to propel Zimbabwe’s education system.
“The donation made by Craft Properties Holdings resonates deeply with the President’s mantra of ‘Nyika inovakwa Nevene Vayo’ as it exemplifies the spirit of collective responsibility and national pride.
“Through their generous contribution of two classroom blocks, an ablution facility and a borehole, Craft Properties have not only improved educational infrastructure but also demonstrated a tangible commitment to the development and betterment of our nation,” he said.
The contribution towards educational infrastructure by the company, was described by an official from the Ministry as a positive step towards bridging the schools’ gap in the province.
Provincial education director, Mr Gabriel Mhuma underscored the need for more businesses to emulate Craft Properties Holdings to increase more learning facilities in the province, with a deficit of over 100 schools.
Before the new facilities, learners endured the pain of learning under tree sheds and using dilapidated ablution facilities while learners and teachers walked some distance to access clean water.
In a speech read on her behalf, Mashonaland West Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Marian Chombo said her province valued education as the cornerstone of prosperity with the facilities donated standing as a symbol for a brighter future for marginalised school children from the community.
“As a province, we want to create a conducive environment for learners, where our children can thrive and unlock their full potential for the betterment of our province and the nation at large,” she said.
Craft Properties Holdings chief executive officer Professor Kudakwashe Taruberekera said: “The transformation we have witnessed within these communities is a testament to the power of collective action and the potential within all of us to make a positive impact.
“As we move forward, let’s remain committed to our mission, innovate for the greater good, and continue to be at the forefront of change,” he said.
The company would provide the classroom blocks with all the necessary electrical fittings pending electricity connection from ZESA and installation of Starlink internet service.
