GOVERNMENT has launched a wellness campaign featuring interactive games designed to promote physical activity and mental wellbeing among civil servants.
Inaugural games took place in Filabusi on Saturday featuring a friendly competition between two districts, Insiza and Matobo.
Matobo district travelled to Insiza to compete in football, netball, volleyball and aerobics as a way of enhancing wellness.
Filabusi hospital was also present to ensure everyone’s safety, providing assistance to the injured and conducting tests including blood sugar, blood pressure and HIV screenings, demonstrating their commitment to health and wellbeing.
Nichodimus Rumula, the Provincial Co-ordinator for the Public Service Commission, said that the Government recognised the necessity for its workers to relax their minds and stretch their bodies to alleviate work-related stress and prevent communicable diseases.
“We are looking forward for this initiative to spread in all districts as the Government has given us a chance, we want to create an environment where everyone feels motivated to prioritise their health,” said Rumula.
He added that by introducing these games they hope to inspire all civil servants to embrace wellness in a fun, engaging way.
Matobo district emerged victorious in netball where they beat Insiza 24–4.
Insiza won a hard-fought 2–1 in volleyball.
The two teams had a 2–2 draw on their first match in football and Matobo won the last match 1–0.
