THE Public Service Commission (PSC) will host the Second Edition of the Public Service Retirement Conference this week at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Bulawayo in a move designed to deepen retirement awareness and build a sustainable framework for a dignified life after work.
The national indaba, running under the theme “Retirement Planning in Action: Transforming Insights into Realities,” is set to be a key platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing and innovation in retirement preparedness.
“The Public Service Commission is pleased to announce the Second Edition of the Retirement Conference scheduled to take place from September 24–26, 2025, at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Bulawayo.
“This national event aims to promote awareness on the importance of retirement planning and provide a platform for stakeholders to discuss retirement preparedness and develop effective retirement programmes,” the PSC said.
The importance of the conference lies in its broad focus on strengthening financial security and social protection systems.
By bringing together policymakers, pension administrators, financial institutions, insurance providers, labour unions and the private sector, the platform will help shape a retirement system that supports both public servants and the nation at large.
“Key anticipated outcomes include increased awareness, capacity building, strengthened stakeholder commitment, and paving the way for the development of a comprehensive and practical retirement planning policy for the public sector, which amplifies the agenda on retirement planning for the nation at large across all sectors of the economy,” the Commission noted.
The event will feature an Exhibition Park running alongside the main conference, giving businesses and organisations an opportunity to showcase products and services that contribute to a dignified retirement.
The PSC stressed that retirement planning is not just a personal financial issue, but a national development imperative.
The Conference aligns with the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), which underscores inclusive socio-economic growth.
“The Conference aligns with Zimbabwe’s national economic development frameworks, particularly the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), by fostering collaboration and innovation in retirement planning, ensuring that diverse insights contribute to a more sustainable and inclusive retirement system for all and is expected to attract participants from across all sectors of the economy,” the PSC said.
Government has institutionalised a deliberate approach to retirement preparedness to ensure public servants are equipped for life beyond active service.
The Retirement Conference, therefore, serves as a vital forum to translate this policy direction into concrete action.
“This conference is a platform for dialogue and collaboration, aiming to promote sustainable retirement outcomes that contribute to national socio-economic goals,” added the Commission.
The convening is expected to attract wide participation from across sectors of the economy, reinforcing its role as a national milestone in driving inclusive retirement planning.
