Following the success of the just concluded Kasi to Kasi Talent Search in Bulawayo, another grassroots talent search show aimed at uncovering hidden artistic gems across the city is set to launch in Pumula suburb, marking the beginning of a city-wide creative hunt.
The inaugural edition of the show, Pumula Got Talent, will take place on June 28 at Pumula South Community Hall, with vibrant local personalities Umnikazi Wempuphu and Bongie Diamond set to host the event.
Spearheaded by creative outfit Yellow World, the show is open to singers, poets, beatboxers, and any form of performing art. With a focus on untapped talent in Bulawayo’s high-density suburbs, the initiative promises to shine a spotlight on emerging creatives who may not have access to mainstream platforms.
Yellow World director, Mentor Dlamini, said the project is about empowering young people at community level and giving them a chance to shine.
“Pumula Got Talent is an event meant to empower young people by focusing on the grassroots of the arts. While this edition is in Pumula, the broader vision is to rotate across all suburbs of Bulawayo, giving each community a chance to showcase its best talents,” said Dlamini.
The judging panel for the launch edition features renowned arts practitioners Saimon Mambazo Phiri, Thando Ndlovu, and Simbongeni Ncube, along with three surprise guest judges. Winners will walk away with cash and voucher prizes.
The show’s organisers hope to create a city-wide creative ripple effect, establishing a platform that could eventually produce some of the city’s next big stars.
