A 15-year-old pupil at Methodist Vocational Training Centre in Makokoba has been arrested for allegedly robbing a schoolmate of a cellphone.The juvenile (name withheld for legal reasons) but residing along 1st Street in the suburb, allegedly committed the offence in the company of an accomplice who is still at large.
It could not be established what Form the boy is doing.
The court was told that the boy and his accomplice allegedly stood on either side of a street holding a string with which they used to block the complainant before robbing him of the cellphone worth $43.
The boy pleaded not guilty to robbery when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Tawanda Muchemwa yesterday.
He was remanded in custody to Thursday.
The State led by Miss Concilia Ncube would seek to prove that sometime last week, the juvenile and his alleged accomplice were near Makokoba Bottle Store with a string which they were using to block passersby.
The court was told that when the complainant approached, the juvenile and his alleged accomplice pulled the string to block him, but the complainant retreated.
It is alleged that the complainant asked what the two were up to resulting in a harsh exchange of words.
The court was told that the juvenile’s accomplice pounced on the complainant and held him by the waist belt while the accused allegedly searched his pockets.
The two allegedly stole the cellphone and fled from the scene.
A report was made to the police leading to the arrest of the boy.
