A PUPIL at Foundation College in Bulawayo has been arrested for stealing his classmate’s Kindle Tablet computer before ganging up with a friend to assault the victim.
It is alleged that Likwa Masuku, 18, stole the tablet from a 17-year-old boy’s satchel when he had gone outside the classroom.
Masuku appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Sibongile Msipa-Marondedze last week charged with theft and assault.
He pleaded not guilty and was remanded out of custody to June 9.
Prosecuting, Taurayi Hondoyemoto told the court that on May 7 this year, Masuku and his victim were in the same classroom at Foundation College.
The 17 year old allegedly left his Kindle Tablet as he went outside.
Hondoyemoto told the court that Masuku took advantage of the boy’s absence and opened his satchel.
“Masuku took the complainant’s tablet and went back to his seat,” said Hondoyemoto.
The prosecutor said on his return, the complainant noticed that his tablet was missing.
Hondoyemoto said the boy searched other pupils’ bags and found his stolen tablet inside Masuku’s satchel.
He said a few minutes later, Masuku teamed up with an unnamed friend and assaulted his classmate accusing him of stealing his cellphone.
The prosecutor told the court that Masuku and his friend claimed that their mobile phone was stolen when the 17-year-old was searching for his tablet.
The pupil who was assaulted did not sustain any visible injuries and did not seek medical attention.
