BROOKSIDE Junior School in Kadoma has shown a positive side of CALA’s practical application after it donated a an assortment of goods to Tariro Children’s Home.
The orphanage houses 19 individuals, seven male, 12 female.
In their CALA component on social responsibility assignment, the school identified a real-life beneficiary whom they decided to assist.
The then Grade 6 class set up a steering committee to spearhead the project.
After they identified Tariro Children’s Home, they went on a drive to source the goods they would eventually donate to the home.
The pupils went on a campaign, within the school boundaries, to ask for donations that they used to purchase the foodstuff.
Further, they found that they needed clothing and they pleaded with those with clothing material to spare to donate.
“When we were informed by our executive director, Madam Phoebe Magamba, we were looking forward to the visit.
“And today, here they are and you can see everyone is happy.
“The institution has a rich history where we have those who have been released finding employment as nurses, teachers and members of the police service.
“Some still contribute to the welfare of those living here. At the moment we’ve learners in primary, secondary, and tertiary education,” said a resident social worker at the home.
