Pushcart theft lands one year imprisonment for Bulawayo duo

TWO men from Bulawayo have been sentenced to one year imprisonment each after being convicted of stealing a push cart loaded with various clothing items worth US$1 300.

Lindani Maphosa (25) and Michael Mbula (22), both from Mzilikazi suburb, appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Mr. Challenge Mahembe, facing theft charges.

According to the State represented by Ms Josephine Gurazhira, on September 29, 2025, around 10PM, at Engine Garage, Corner Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo and 5th Avenue, Bulawayo, the accused persons stole the complainant’s push cart.

“The stolen push cart was loaded with various clothing items and they ran away,” said Ms Gurazhira.

The court heard that the complainant reported the matter to the police, leading to the recovery of the push cart and a few clothes.

“The total value of the stolen property was US$1 300, and only property worth US$200 was recovered,” she said.

The duo were then sentenced to one year in prison with three months suspended, leaving an effective nine months to serve.
