Multi-award-winning actress and musician Qeqeshiwe Mntambo is looking to reignite her musical career and is calling on experienced industry professionals to come on board and help guide her next chapter.
The Victoria Falls-based artiste, who recently gave birth, appears ready to return to the music scene after years of building an impressive career across music, theatre, film and dance.
For Mntambo, however, the return is about more than simply getting back on stage. It is about putting the right structures in place to ensure that her talent, work and experience are properly managed and preserved.
Reflecting on her journey, she said the lack of proper documentation and professional management has been one of the biggest setbacks in her career.
“Looking back, failing to document my work and not having proper management or a team has been my biggest setback. This is a challenge shared by many artistes, particularly those who are forced to handle the creative, administrative and business sides of their careers on their own,” she said.
Mntambo said with that in mind, she is now looking for a professional manager, agent or promoter with a proven track record of working with artistes, someone who understands the entertainment business and can help build a career rather than simply manage individual bookings.
“Are there professional managers, agents or promoters with a proven track record working with artistes? Not ‘chancers’ or ‘wanna-bes’, but people who genuinely build, guide, and shape an artist’s career?
“I am looking forward to working with such a person and collaborate with them to make this happen and solidify my cereer, which I believe is ready for exportation,” she said.
The call comes from an artiste who is no stranger to the spotlight. Qeqe has built a multifaceted career spanning theatre, film and music, while using her artistry to celebrate and preserve her cultural heritage.
As an actress, she has featured in more than 10 theatre and film productions and won the National Arts Merit Awards (Nama) Outstanding Actress award in 2013 for her portrayal of Suku in Suku. She went on to claim another Nama acting accolade, making her a two-time winner.
Qeqe is also part of the cast of Simunye: The Spirit of Africa, a Victoria Falls-based production that brings together performers in a celebration of African culture and creativity.
Music has remained an integral part of her creative identity, and her return could signal the beginning of a new chapter, one anchored in greater professionalism, planning and consistency. She is particularly known for Afro-jazz, soul and Xhosa-influenced music, while her repertoire has also ventured into house.
Beyond her solo work, Qeqe has collaborated with Zimbabwean performing-arts groups, including Umkhathi Theatre Works, and was formerly associated with Sandra Ndebele’s Intombi Zomqangala. Her diverse artistic background places her in a unique position to bridge music, theatre and cultural expression.
