Qhubani Moyo to run for Bosso chair?

Innocent Kurira, Sports Reporter

HIGHLANDERS FC life member Qhubani Moyo is believed to have begun laying the foundation for his bid to run for the Bosso chairmanship in the upcoming elections set for early next year.

Candidates vying for positions normally keep their cards close to their chests and only make their intentions to the public and Bosso electorate towards nomination day. A number of names are being thrown around as possible candidates and Moyo is among the growing list.

Contacted for a comment, Moyo could neither confirm nor deny interest to be the next Bosso chairman to replace Johnfat Sibanda whose term runs out at the club’s annual general meeting set for the last Sunday of January next year. On his part Sibanda is eligible for the second term as he is serving his first term.

“All I can tell you for now is I am a life member and therefore can participate in the club’s elections,” said Moyo.

Moyo has previously served as a commissioner for the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) and is a former chief executive officer of Fairtalk Communications.

Paid-up members will in February next year converge on the Highlanders Clubhouse to elect three office bearers to occupy positions held by Sibanda (chairman), Morgan Dube (secretary-general) and Mgcini Mafu (committee member).

So far only one aspiring candidate, Nodumo Nyathi, has declared his intention to contest for the chairmanship.

Nyathi has been a club benefactor who helped wipe out a million dollar debt four years ago. He has supported several Bosso projects, lower division clubs and art awards in the region. He used social media to garner support for the campaign. The legacy debt was $862 868. Incumbent, Sibanda is still to announce if he will seek re-election.
