FOUR Gwanda men have appeared in court facing charges of stealing car parts worth more than R18 000. Mthokozisi Phiri (24), Zibonele Ndlovu (35), Ben Ndlovu (23) and Lalelani Sithole (20) all of Makwe area under Chief Mathema, pleaded not guilty to theft when they appeared before Gwanda magistrate Mr Arafat Kozanai.
They were remanded in custody to Monday for continuation of trial.
The State alleges that on 27 August at about 5pm, the complainant, Mr Malusi Msimanga (50) of House Number 1222 Phakama suburb in Gwanda Town, left his vehicle, a Nissan Hardbody registration number VHT037GP by the road side at the 21km peg along Maphisa-Gwanda road.
The vehicle had been involved in an accident.
At night the four allegedly connived and proceeded to where the vehicle was.
The court was told that acting in concert and with a common purpose, they allegedly stole the vehicle’s parts worth R18 760.
The accused persons allegedly used Phiri’s motor vehicle, a Ford Courier pick-up to carry the loot to Gwanda Town where they intended to sell the parts.
The matter was reported to the police.
Police detectives got information about the vehicle parts that were on sale leading to the arrest of the accused persons while they were still soliciting for buyers.
Parts worth $13 740 were recovered.
