The much-awaited “Queen Modjadji” series, set to hit screens tonight on DStv’s Mzansi Magic, was successfully launched in Bulawayo on Thursday at the Bulawayo Rainbow Hotel. The launch event was attended by creatives and media personnel.
The series follows the life of the late Babelodu Queen, who possessed rainmaking powers. The role of the Queen is played by actress Makoma Mohale.
“This Sunday, the action-drama series ‘Queen Modjadji’ takes up the 8pm prime-time viewing slot. This remarkable series draws inspiration from the story of Babelodu rainmaker Queen Modjadji, whose bloodline has reigned over the Southern Africa Babelodu clan for centuries. Destined for the throne and endowed with a powerful ancestral gift, her rule ushered in a lineage of hereditary Queens.”
“Queen Modjadji” follows the success of “Shaka iLembe”, which became a global television phenomenon. That successful series results from MultiChoice’s strategy to promote African storytelling. It was produced for MultiChoice after extensive consultations with the Babelodu tribe.
“The series will explore what women who held this royal title experienced, sacrificed, lost, and achieved. It will be very entertaining and will include historical details set under unpredictable skies, where rain or storm reflects the lives of people on the ground.”
