Queen Vanessa, Africa’s jewel

second runner-up at the Top Model of the World pageant in Germany.
The event was held at the Maritim Hotel on the Island of Usedom.
It started at about 8:20pm in the “Ballroom” with all contestants dressed in white and dancing to the song “Hello” while guests were treated to a sumptuous three-course meal.
There were 44 girls vying for the title.
Africa was represented by Algeria, Ghana, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Zambia and Zimbabwe were promoted by the charity “Mumba Children’s project” that stage Miss Malaika UK.
After all the categories had been done (swim wear and evening wear), it was time for the Top 15.
Prejudging had been done in the afternoon.
In the Top 15 were Romania, Poland, Spain, Honduras, Zimbabwe, El Salvador, India, Algeria, Canada, San Andres Island, Ukraine, Brazil, Colombia, China and Baltic Sea.
Among the special awards were: Best Body (Brazil), Most Photogenic (Canada) and Best Evening Gown (Poland).
Afterwards the judges announced Algeria, Romania, Baltic Sea, Poland and Zimbabwe as the Top Five.
This was the first time two African countries were placed so highly in the competition since it started in 1993.
Finally the Top three were announced as second runner-up Zimbabwe, first runner-up Baltic Sea and winner Romania.
The Mumba Children’s Project started promoting African girls at this competition in 2006 when Clementine Mbazo represented Zimbabwe in China, then followed by Ropafadzai Garise in Egypt in 2007.
