QUEENS PARK Police Station won the final of the ZRP (Bulawayo) provincial football league after thumping Western Commonage 4-1 at AmaZulu Sports Club on Wednesday.

First half goals from Luckmore Maganga, Talent Mudanga, Patrick Bonamali and Eric Shava propelled Queens Park to a well deserved victory.

ZRP Bulawayo Province secretary general for stations’ league, Seagal Masuku, said the tournament which has 16 teams, is played every Wednesday and meant, among other objectives, to keep members of the force physically fit to execute their duties. “Before the season starts, all teams pay $10 affiliation fees and the players who attain red cards during the league games pay fines so as to promote discipline within the police force. The affiliation fees and fines help in holding the league’s top eight tournament,” said Masuku.

Meanwhile, in the third place play-offs Nkulumane and Tshabalala police stations squared off with the former winning 2-1 to get bronze.

Masuku said they are looking forward to ensuring that the tournament involves civilian teams so as to promote co-operation between the two. — @DecoDecent2
