ZIMBABWE tennis trio of Ronzai Saurombe, Valerie Bhunu and Rufaro Chireva have advanced to the semifinal stage of the ongoing African Union Sports Council Region 5 Under-20 Youth Games. Top seed Saurombe got to a good start on Monday morning when he faced Lesotho’s second seed Lebelo Mosehle. The Zimbabwean had it tough in the first set. The hard saves from Mosehle gave the Lesotho player an advantage for a while as Saurombe faltered to give away points.

It was not his usual day of keeping the ball in play but he regained his hold on the racket and retained dominance of the match.

He crushed the Lesotho ace 7-6, 6-4 to book a berth in the semifinal tomorrow.

He faces Lumeta Chisomo of Malawi. Chisomo beat Emmanuel Mabhechu of Botswana in the quarter finals 6-3, 6-1.

Valerie Bhunu was the first to go on court against Mozambique’s Claudia Sumaia winning 6-0, 6-0. This was one match where Bhunu did not struggle to control. In the second set, the Mozambiquan seemed to have let go, sensing that she had lost it. Bhunu meets South African first-rate player Caitlin Herb this morning
