CONDOLENCE messages from the racing family have been pouring in for Cape Cod, the racehorse that was put down after breaking his leg at this year’s Castle Tankard at Borrowdale.
Cape Cod, from the Kirk Swanson yard, was put down after he fractured his leg with 200 metres left in the big race.
Photographer Andrew Phillip said it was sad he will not be able to take pictures of Cape Cod again.
“It’s sad that I won’t be able to photograph this phenomenal young horse anymore. Kirk, Debs and the rest of the Swanson Racing team, I am so sorry that you lost this boy. He was truly a special character!
“In good times racing is what dreams are made of. When things go badly wrong one can only think of what might have been.
“Rest in peace Cape Cod. The promising colt broke down at the Tankard meeting. Our thoughts are with those who loved him,” he posted.
The 56th edition of the Castle Tankard was won by Comanche Brave who defied the odds to win the $50 000 purse event.
Comache Brave had Evert Pheiffer as the jockey.
