Radio Dialogue fined

Court Reporter
RADIO Dialogue has been fined $100 for possessing 180 shortwave radios without listeners’ licences. The yet to be licensed station’s production manager, Zenzele Ndebele, was last year found in possession of 180 unlicensed radio receivers which were confiscated by the police. Ndebele represented the organisation and pleaded guilty to the charges before Bulawayo magistrate Chrispen Mberewere  who ordered him to pay a $100 fine.

Prosecuting, Jerry Mutsindikwa, told how on March 1, 2013 around 8AM, police got a tip off that Ndebele had some radio receivers which were not licensed in his house.

Acting on the information, police conducted a search and recovered 180 etron shortwave radios which were packed in nine boxes and each box contained 20 receivers.
Ndebele failed to produce listeners’ licences required by the law leading to his arrest.

In his defence, Ndebele represented by Kucaca Phulu, said the radios were a donation.
