THE nation’s artistic elite are preparing to gather at the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC) this Saturday for the prestigious National Arts Merit Awards (Nama), and a fresh face will be guiding the glamour on the sidelines.

Bulawayo-based radio personality Taboka “MaNdazi Queen” Nleya has been selected as a red-carpet host for this year’s ceremony, marking a significant debut on the national awards stage.

For many, Nama is an annual highlight, but for Nleya, a vibrant voice on Skyz Metro FM, this weekend represents a thrilling new frontier. Tasked with capturing the arrivals, style, and pre-show buzz on the red carpet, Nleya steps into a role that puts her at the forefront of one of Zimbabwe’s biggest nights in the arts.

In an interview, Nleya shared the whirlwind of emotions accompanying this high-profile opportunity.

“I’m excited but scared at the same time. Ever since I became a media personality, I’m always on the lookout for bigger opportunities and growth. So, being given the chance to be the red carpet host at such a prestigious event shows that my work is being recognised and that fills my heart with joy,” she said.

Nleya’s selection is seen as a nod to both her growing profile as a media professional and a welcome representation of talent from outside the capital. Her dynamic presence on radio has cemented her popularity in the Matabeleland region and beyond. – Follow on X @MbuleloMpofu
