THE newly-established Rainbow Amateur Netball League are rushing against time to affiliate with the Zimbabwe Netball Association.
Rainbow are looking forward to form a parallel league from the one which ZINA have been running for years and have since identified a potential sponsor, who has since pledged to support them.
At least 20 professional teams sent representatives to last week’s meeting in Gweru, where they adopted their constitution and the Rainbow Amateur League spokesperson Moses Gukurume was happy with the progress.
“We had a successful meeting in Gweru at the weekend in which we adopted the constitution and made sure that all members who are interested put forward their expectations.
“We had our resolutions, which everyone was happy with and had set February 21 as the date for submitting our compliance and affiliation to the netball mother body. The challenge which we had is that ZINA do not have offices and that proved a challenge to our legal representatives as when we tried to hand over the documents, we were told the secretary-general was out of town and he told us to send them through e-mail, which we did.
“Our aim is to have a well-run league affiliated to ZINA and we are not fighting anyone, but we are only after promoting our brand and see the girl child benefit from the sport,” said Gukurume.
ZINA have been saying there won’t be another league as they are the custodians of the sport and run the only official league in Zimbabwe.
The new league will be officially launched in Bulawayo on March 30.
