Preparations for the event are at an advanced stage.
The festival, which seeks to promote the arts industry in Matabeleland South Province, will be held at Gwanda District Club from 18 to 20 October.
It will run under the theme “Talent Identification and Development: Taking Arts to the People”.
The director of the Rainbow Province Arts Festival, Nokuthula Moyo, said the festival, which was usually a two-day event, would this year run for three days.
“The first day will be dedicated to an arts development workshop and theatre performances. On 19 and 20 October, there will be music, theatre, poetry and dance performances at Gwanda District Club. We will also have exhibitions of various works of craft which will include basketry, sculpture and pottery,” he said.
Moyo said this year they were inviting writers, bookshops, arts associations and publishers to come and exhibit novels and textbooks written in local languages such as Ndebele, Sotho, Venda, Kalanga and Shangani.
“This move is aimed at reviving and promoting interest in reaching pieces of work in our own languages. We can assure the people of Matabeleland South and the rest of Zimbabwe of a bigger and better Rainbow Province Arts Festival in this 4th edition because preparations are at a very advanced stage,” said Moyo.
The festival provides a platform for artists in the province to market their work to consumers and potential consumers.
