Harare’s Rainbow Towers will host its first international stand-up comedy festival dubbed Rainbow Towers Comedy Festival on November 28. The comedy fiesta, put together by renowned comedian Carl Joshua Ncube and promotional company Xtra Time Investments, will see international acts gracing the stage.
“I have performed in different countries around the globe and through those travels I interacted with comedians that played a role in building my career.
“I have come to know them personally and this festival is meant be a platform for interaction with local guys. I hope such a platform will promote the growth of local comedy sector,” said Ncube.
The international stand-up comedy festival’s launch will mark the start of a series of festivals that will be held quarterly throughout the year.
“This year the comedy fest will be graced by top stand-up comedy duo Donovan and Jason Goliath. They are the most popular duo in South Africa right now. Since the festival will be a quarterly event the audience can expect other acts from Nigeria, Kenya and Uganda to feature in future,” he said.
In the upcoming festival, the South African comedians will be joined on stage by Michael Kudakwashe, better known as Michael K, rising comedian, Ngobizitha “Q” Dube together with host Carl Joshua Ncube.
Local stand-up comedy continues to grow with determined pundits like Ncube coming up with programmes to revive the sector. Together with the likes of Doc Vikela and Comrade Fatso, they have created stand up comedies clubs in local joints around the country.
This year, local comedy made its début at the Harare International Festival of Arts.
